Salerno signs up to US initiative

Salerno Container Terminal has opened its doors to US Customs officials as the first commercial port in Italy to become operational under the US Container Security Initiative.

The US Department of Defense (DoD) program allows the DoD access to real-time information of all cargo and containers moving through major international ports through radio frequency identification and reader nodes computer equipment.

DoD currently has over 1,200 military locations operational worldwide and by 2008 it will also track cargo and containers through commercial ports. Gallozzi Group president Agostino Gallozzi said the terminal and the Gallozzi group was committed on providing ongoing technical support and fast quality services to its customers and continuously scans the market for the latest technologies available.
