Spanish box traffic up 7.3% for half year

Spains National Ports Authority has confirmed that in the first six months of this year container traffic grew by 7.3% to more than 6.5m teu.

Import-export traffic did particularly well, up 10.1%.

In terms of total tonnage, all Spanish ports handled a combined 218m tonnes for the half-year, an increase of 5.5%.

Four ports – Algeciras (37m tonnes), Valencia (32.2m tonnes), Barcelona (22.4m tonnes) and Bilbao (17.2m tonnes) – accounted for more than half of all traffic handled.
