Spanish service providers make strike threat

Representatives from the ports of Algeciras, Barcelona, Bilbao, Cádiz, Castellón, Cartagena, Ferrol, Huelva, Las Palmas, Sagunto, Tenerife and Valencia backed the call, supported by a number of port unions.

In a statement, the use of towing and mooring services by non-Spanish-registered companies was roundly condemned.

“Logically, they will not come from states with a more advanced labour framework — on the contrary, the objective is to promote the rolling back of labour rights enjoyed by existing sector workers, whilst benefiting from lower taxes and lower payments to their workers,” said the statement.
