Tracking system monitors shipping
The Port of Amsterdam went live with a new port management system during September.
Called Pontis, it tracks all shipping-related information, and provides a link between ships, the port authorities, Customs, Military Police, nautical-service providers such as towing companies, pilot agencies, and shipping companies. As such it’s intended to store and process relevant information about all vessels in Amsterdam, Beverwijk, IJmuiden and Zaandam, and link that to other systems, such as the one for port dues, in a transparent manner.
Future developments of the system will allow shipping agencies to be hooked up too.
