Mario Tamburri PhD

Dr. Mario Tamburri received a Bachelors degree from University of California Santa Barbara and a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina in biology and marine science. He is now a Professor at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science and Director of the Maritime Environmental Resource Center (www.maritime-enviro.org), which is a US Coast Guard-approved ballast water management system test facility and facilitates green ship innovations, and the Alliance for Coastal Technologies (www.act-us.info), a NOAA- and EPA-funded program that facilitates the development and adoptions of sensors and platforms for studying and monitoring aquatic environments. Dr. Tamburri has worked extensively on chemically mediated larval settlement/recruitment, has been involved in the issue of ships and invasive species for nearly 20 years, and has led the testing and evaluation of several diverse BWMSs, at the laboratory, land-based and shipboard scale.
