Martijn de Jong

Martijn dr. De Jong works at the Harbour, Coastal and Offshore Engineering department of Deltares as Expert Advisor Ports. In addition, he is coordinator of the Deltares Program ‘Ports & Waterways’, which deals with consultancy and research related to the operational use of ports, inland waterways and navigation locks. He has an MSc in hydraulic engineering and a PhD in fluid mechanics.

Martijn dr. De Jong has over fifteen years of professional experience in civil engineering and nautical/harbour projects. As a port specialist he consults on hydrodynamic topics related to layout designs (wave penetration, currents and vessel-induced water motions) and nautical activities in and around ports (manoeuvring, mooring). Besides his own main technical fields of expertise, dr. De Jong has supervised several interdisciplinary projects involving large nautical infrastructure developments and studies on sedimentation of entrance channels and port basins. In these projects the topic of sustainability and minimising and mitigating negative impacts has an increasingly large role. This makes that dr. De Jong has a broad technical profile and can advise on many technical topics related to the design, operation and impacts of large infrastructural works.
