Pepijn Veefkind

Dr Pepijn Veefkind is an expert on satellite observations of the atmospheric composition, for air quality and climate monitoring. He is a senior scientist at the Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute (KNMI) and associate professor at the Delft University of Technology. Pepijn is the Principal Investigator of the TROPOMI instrument on board of the European Sentinel 5P satellite, which was launched in October 2017. TROPOMI can observe concentrations of key pollutants in the atmosphere with unprecedented sensitivity. Pepijn is also the deputy Principal Investigator for the OMI instrument, on board of the NASA EOS Aura satellite, which is in orbit since 2004. He advices the European Space Agency on the development of new missions, as a member of the Mission Advisory Groups and as a member of the European Space Science Committee. Pepijn has background in physics and meteorology and contributed to more than 70 peer reviewed publications in scientific journals as author or co-author. His research interests include the quantification of emission sources, including those of shipping, for air quality and climate applications.
