DPI CRACKS DOWN ON UNETHICAL PRACTICES AT KOCHI

The Indian subsidiary of DPI, India Gateway Terminal, which is operating the container terminal at Kochi port, is taking legal action against alleged unethical practices which include bribery. A worker accused of accepting bribes from a clearing agent has already been suspended.

Around US$604.85m in investment will be required.

The man, who was driving a reachstacker, apparently received ‘speed money’ from the agent to speed up cargo clearance. Significantly, trade unions refused to support a wildcat strike by workers arising from the incident. The firm employing the clearing agent is to be temporarily banned from the port as a punishment.
