Iraq to upgrade Maqal port

Authorities in Iraq have signed a $40m deal with a US consortium headed by North America Western Asia Holdings to modernise the port of Maqal, which is on the Shatt al-Arab waterway in Basra province.

Over the next 10 years, a new heavylift crane will be acquired, along with container handling equipment, which will be used at a new handling facility at one of the 14 proposed berths.
