Iraqis to mount regular Mubarak protests

A group of Iraqis are to hold weekly demonstrations on the border with Kuwait in protest against the construction of the Mubarak port on Boubyan island. The security services will be deployed to contain any subsequent disturbances from the protests.

The planned Mubarak Al-Kabir port at Boubyan Island has been the subject of controversy

The protests are planned for Fridays.

The Iraqi prime minister has openly stated that, if the new port harms domestic interests, “Iraq will oppose the construction of the port using the correct means and through international organisations”.
