ISRAELI DOCKERS THREATEN STRIKE

First phase investment will require US$100m to develop roads, a 600 metre long quay, a reservoir, a bonded warehouse and upgraded power supply, allowing the facility to open by 2007.

Dockers at Israel’s three state-owned ports of Haifa, Eilat and Ashdod are continuing to threaten a national strike to prevent reform of port legislation which will allow services to commence at a rival private port. Israel Shipyards, which has its own private terminal in the port of Haifa, is to start handling cargo vessels soon.
