Jebel Ali slashes congestion times

Delays at DP Worlds flagship Jebel Ali facility in Dubai have been cut from as long as a week to less than a day following the introduction of higher storage charges.

A DP World spokesperson said the higher rates had encouraged traders to move containers off the terminal more quickly, while the delivery of new equipment had speeded handling operations.

“Many ships were delayed by as much as seven days,” she said. “The larger-sized ships had waiting times of three to four days which added costs in excess of $45,000 a day in charter hire alone.”Ships’ waiting time has now been reduced to under 24 hours.”
