KGL AWARDED DAMIETTA

At present, ships drawing up to 13m-13.5m can access the facility; dredging will deepen this to 15m. The work is needed to stop cargo migrating to either Djibouti or Durban.

Kuwait terminal operator KGL Port International, which forms part of the Kuwait & Gulf Link Transport Company, has been awarded a 40-year concession to build and operate a new container terminal in the Egyptian Port of Damietta. Initial capacity will be 1.5m teu, rising to 4m teu when the project is fully implemented in 2010. KGL is also negotiating contracts to manage ports in India, while also expanding existing operations in Nigeria and Zimbabwe.
