Shahama shifts focus to leisure

An agreement was signed between the two parties at the World Ports and Trade Summit (WPTS) earlier this month.

The main development will be centred around the port’s leisure and recreational services – the strategy being to add value both to the port and to the surrounding area.

Waleed Al Tamini, vice president in project development at ADPC, said: “ADPC is dedicated to ensuring the highest levels of customer satisfaction by providing quality facilities and services across its network of port facilities.”

Works will include an upgrade of the Shahama Port water basin and land site, followed by the development of sales and service facilities for small marine craft and other “commercial, recreational and leisure activities.”

The idea is that while Khalifa Port will become the chief focal point for Abu Dhabi’s commercial activities over the coming decades, the Emirate’s smaller port’s aim to remain just as important – perhaps, as demonstrated by Shahama, by way of a more leisure orientated offering.
