Veracruz, Mexicos largest port in the Gulf of Mexico, is to reactivate the concession process covering three terminals, following an examination by the countrys antitrust authorities. The process began in November last year when one minerals terminal and another handling vehicles were offered as 15-year concessions with an option to extend these by a further 15 years, along with a third terminal aimed at warehousing unitised, general cargo and containers.

In keeping with the rest of North Africa, the two Spanish Moroccan enclaves of Melilla and Ceuta believe that there is still money is to be made from developing major container transhipment hubs. However, their desire to break into this market is being driven by other factors, too.

However on 12 April the Federal Competition Commission asked for the process to be extended to allow it time to examine the impact such a tender process would have.
