Strong rumours are emerging in Mexico that HPH is also planning to develop a brand new container handling facility at Punta Colonet, some 130km south of the port of Ensenada, which virtually straddles the US border. Ensenada, currently handling 100,000TEUs, has an upper capacity limit of 150,000TEUs, with little prospect of expansion. HPH, which runs the box terminal there, is apparently negotiating with rail operator Union Pacific to build a railway from Punta Colonet to an inland distribution centre at Yuma in Arizona.
