Costa Rican unions oppose ports privatisation
Trade union leaders in Costa Rica continue to oppose Limón-Moíns privatisation plans claiming that it would not be in the interest of workers because the port complex is currently profitable.
They, for their part, would like to see the government modernise ports instead of private operators.
The Sintrajab trade union has asked for $700m in compensation, if a private concessionaire is found, allowing $905 in severance pay for each worker.
The government countered with an offer of $80m, which was rejected by the union and tagged as “humiliating”.
