Drivers end POMTOC boycott

Dispatchers at a number of South Florida drayage companies reported that turn times were quicker at POMTOC, located at PortMiami, with the company having increased its opening times at its terminal gates by opening an hour earlier than the former 0700 hrs start.

The terminal said that, excluding a one-hour lunch break, it will operate through the end of the year from 0600 hrs to 1700 hrs, with truck gates shutting at 1600 hrs.

Truckers who had previously reported delays that had stretched in some cases into hours said that the terminal was now turning around trucks in under 90 minutes on double moves combining container delivery and pickup.

The boycott, with drivers refusing assignments, took place early November in response to the sluggish turn times, which left truckers and beneficial cargo owners with expensive penalties.

The two other container terminals at PortMiami, Seaboard Marine and South Florida Container Terminal, were not affected by the strike action.
