First US member for IPCSA

According to the Californian facility’s executive director Gene Seroka, the port has joined the organisation to enhance its efforts for a common understanding of how PSCs operate and what they can deliver both now and in the future.

“IPCSA’s consultative status at the International Maritime Organization and the key role it plays in international standards meetings, including the World Customs Organization, International Organization for Standardization, United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and Electronic Business and International Air Transport Association, are important to us,” he also noted.

The port joins IPCSA as it launches its Port Optimizer technology platform with equipment manufacturer and General Electric division GE Transportation.

The platform, launched in a pilot form last year, is designed to provide advanced visibility and optimise planning throughout the supply chain.

According to a release from the port and IPCSA, the platform has already attracted international interest, and Los Angeles is currently collaborating with terminals on implementation throughout the port complex.

Commenting on the port joining the IPCSA, the grouping’s secretary general Richard Morton noted that it was a further exciting expansion of the geographical reach and membership of his association, which began as a European organisation just seven years ago.

“We look forward to sharing and exchanging knowledge with the Port of Los Angeles, which has pioneered the Port Optimizer over the past two years,” he said.

“IPCSA provides a platform for members from around the world to share and exchange experience and best practice in the smooth flow of information [in order] to enhance cargo flow and trade facilitation.”
