Limón concession desperately needed to boost efficiency

Costa Ricas Atlantic Port Authority (Japdeva) is seeking to implement privatisation of Limón Port by the end of the current year to improve the short term outlook for the port.

Private sector investment is needed to boost efficiency to that of Caldera port, on the Pacific coast, where private management was brought in several years ago.

The most recent blow to the port saw trade unions withdraw cooperation following a decision to not pay overtime to workers, since most of these work only six-hour shifts.
