New Colombian coal port planned
Glencore and nine Colombian coal mining companies are planning to build a new port in the north of the country costing $1bn and capable of exporting 60m tonnes of coal annually.
It will be built in the municipality of Ciénaga in the Magdalena region. The existing concession that Glencore has at the port of Santa Marta expires in March this year and will not be renewed because of a need to reduce dust emissions.
