Punta Colonet threatened by land dispute
In an early blow to its ambitious megaport programme at Punta Colonet, Mexicos federal government will have to negotiate with Mexican mining group GML to resolve land disputes related to the $4.86bn multimodal port project in Baja California state, maritime expert Juan Carlos Merodio has said.
Mexico, which only recently opened bidding for the port, plans to transform a wind-swept Mexican bay 150 miles south of the US border into a booming city, drawing freighters from Asia and funnelling manufactured goods north once a 150 mile rail link is built.
