Santa Fe to gain new access channel

Peter Bingham, who has been in Iraqi as special advisor for the CPA explained that on his arrival last year his initial views were that the ports had deep water and were generally in reasonable condition with good quay surfaces and warehouses.

The River Plate basin development fund (Fonplata) is to finance studies into the construction of an improved connection to the Santa Fe river port, 540km upstream of the Argentinean capital Buenos Aires. Fonplata has a pool of $25m allocated to the project, from which fees for the study will be paid. The existing 9km access channel to the Plate River will be replaced by a more direct access to enable Santa Fe to ship more of its soya output (70% of the nation’s total) by river.
