Three in the frame for Puerto Rico

Three bidders have been selected to bid for Puerto Ricos Puerto de la Americas container terminal development project, which is centred on the two southern coastal towns of Ponce and Guayanilla. Two container berths will be established at the former and four at the latter at a cost, including dredging, of $700m.

Overall, he notes, Indian ports are beginning to lack competitiveness compared to other regional players, which places the country’s overseas trade at risk.

A 1 June 2004 deadline has been established for final bids to be made, with an award shortly afterwards;

work is expected to commence by the end of the current year for inauguration in 2006. PSA, ICTSI and an international consortium including CSX, AP Moller and Rotterdam Port have all pre-qualified.
