Trinidads state-owned National Energy CorporationNEC has started construction of a $105m terminal to handle anestimated 4m tonnes of iron ore and 3m tonnes ofhot bricketted iron (HBI) and other downstream products each year onceit opens at the end of 2009.

The port is being built south of Point Lisas harbour to service the needs of Essar Steel and the Westlake Polyethylene Complex.
