Empty container park EOI

The Port of Newcastle is seeking Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the potential operation, or operation and construction, of an ECP within its Mayfield 4 berth.

“With the Port’s investment in infrastructure, prime location and access to rail and road links, this could be a great opportunity for a collaborative partnership with our growing Port,” said Lindsay Crutch, project director at the Port of Newcastle.

4Ha of land

If the project proceeds, Port of Newcastle proposes to make available approximately 4Ha of land for the ECP. Port of Newcastle would provide the applicant a portion of hardstand area under licence to establish the ECP and the Port is prepared to consider establishing the facilities required in agreement with the Applicant, as part of the initial license, said the port.

An AUS$28.4m investment in two Liebherr L550 mobile harbour cranes and associated infrastructure at the port’s Mayfield 4 berth is also being made. The berth is used for break bulk and general cargo and this trade is expected to continue through the berth following installation of the cranes.

The Port of Newcastle currently handles 4,400 ship movements and 164m tonnes of cargo annually, including dry bulk, bulk liquids, ro-ro, general and project cargoes and containers. It has a deepwater shipping channel operating at 50% of its capacity.

The EOI for this potential project will remain open from 23 September until 4pm on 5 November.
