Fremantle narrows tender selection to incumbents

The state went to tender in May last year for the operation of Fremantle’s two container terminals. The leases will be seven years long with options for extensions.

State Minister for Ports Alannah MacTiernan said the chosen tenderers will now enter negotiations ahead of leases starting in July, with the focus being on proposals for investment and planning to cater for expected trade growth.

“As part of this process Fremantle Ports will seek to further improve the efficiency of land transport movements of containers to and from the port,” she said.

The two incumbent stevedores are seen as having a strong position in the tendering process because of their ability to offer a national network, with established container operations in the east coast ports.
