Mackay coal pledge
TheQueensland government has promised residents of Mackay that the portwill not be used to export the regions large reserves of coal.Instead, the exports will be channelled via the existing coalspecialist ports of Hay Point, Dalrymple Bay and Abbott Point. Localresidents have been concerned at the environmental repercussions ofshifting coal through the city centre.
Following a Competition and Infrastructure Reform review, which largely gave a clean slate for competition levels within the port, New South Wales ports minister Joe Tripodi nonetheless said port corporations would have to engage with supply chains to help improve productivity and efficiency.
