To do this, some existing cranes will require repair, whilst new ones will be purchased. In addition, infrastructure upgrades will be undertaken and quays extended.

Expected to be fully commissioned alongside its existing two cranes in June this year, the new crane will bring faster lifting speeds and enable the port to work three cranes on one vessel or two vessels simultaneously for the first time.

CentrePort Wellington is also replacing two older models with new Liebherrs, expected to be fully operational by the end of May. Although pursuing an integrated logistics approach to port facilities, services and property interests, CentrePort emphasises it is “foremost a port” and says the new cranes should provide greater productivity and service reliability.
