Almost one in 10 containers inspected for bio-security contamination in New Zealand currently fail the test. An additional $50 an hour inspection charge is to be levied to finance more rigorous checks, according to port sources.

The Government says it needs to ensure the document reflects transport priorities for national economic growth and productivity, and efficient transport investment. Bids had initially been called for by the end of February.
