NZL signs Ports of Auckland

Transportation and logistics company NZL Group has secured Ports of Auckland as the first major customer of its planned independent Sulphur Point Container Terminal.

Ports of Auckland managing director Jens Madsen says the move will expand his port company’s offering to customers, with entry into the Bay of Plenty and Waikato regions.

“The ultimate objective of this is to of course offer the customer something that is leaner and more attractive than what is currently on offer,” he says.

However, NZL’s ability to trigger an historic contract right and establish a private container terminal at Sulphur Point is to date being strongly contested by the Port of Tauranga.

The port company has also recently informed NZL that its services to vessels berthed at the current Sulphur Point Container Terminal were no longer required.
