Building a smarter resilient marine industry
A new partnership created under the auspices of the WARRaNT project aims to enhance safe, secure and resilient marine digitalisation across Europe’s maritime sector.
Backed by the EU’s Horizon Europe programme, WARRaNT brings together 14 expert partners from eight countries in a three-year collaboration tasked with ensuring the security of the industry as automation, AI and smart technologies ramp up.
With the Port of Antwerp-Bruges onboard as an associated partner, the project could also unlock major value for European ports through digital innovation.
“WARRaNT is more than a research project, it’s a strategic partnership to shape the digital backbone of Europe’s future maritime industry,” said Georgia Tsiochantari, senior project manager at Inlecom Group.
Building resilience
The project targets a critical challenge: How to ensure the security, resilience and trustworthiness of connected ships and infrastructure as automation, AI, and smart technologies scale up.
WARRaNT aims to drive advances in smart containers, autonomous vessel operations and cyber security, ultimately supporting autonomous operations at sea and in ports. It will include real-world testing via Living Labs and wide-ranging stakeholder engagement.
The Port of Antwerp-Bruges will play a key role, with its involvement centred on port-ship cyber resilience.
As a strategic port hub, Antwerp-Bruges stands to benefit directly from WARRaNT’s outcomes, including validated methodologies for safe digital systems, risk-based simulation tools and training programmes.
