PortRail brand unifies UK bulk logistics
A new player in the UK bulk logistics sector has emerged with the launch of PortRail Group, following the integration of rail freight specialist RFS Works Ltd into JST Ports & Logistics.
The rebrand brings together two established operators under a single identity, creating a combined business that handles more than 15 million tonnes of bulk commodities annually, including aggregates, biomass, timber and steel.
“Following our acquisition of RFS Works, our new name brings JST and RFS together under one brand,” said Richard Jennings, chief executive of PortRail. “The group is an integrated bulk logistics powerhouse with the proven capacity to deliver value with every multimodal bulk material handling challenge.”
Backed by a workforce of around 200 employees and what the company describes as the largest and most diverse machinery fleet in the sector, PortRail aims to position itself as a leading provider of multimodal material handling solutions across the UK and Ireland.
The business supports the transfer of goods between ships, trains and trucks at more than 200 loading points, enabling operators to optimise freight routes and reduce reliance on road haulage.
The company said the integration strengthens its ability to offer more carbon-efficient logistics solutions, as customers face increasing pressure to cut emissions across supply chains.
“This marks the beginning of a bold new chapter, enabling us to combine decades of expertise in innovative handling and logistics solutions to support sustainable economic growth,” Jennings added.
The PortRail name and branding are already being rolled out across the company’s fleet, featuring a new logo designed to reflect the movement of materials and machinery tracks, incorporating elements from both legacy brands.
