APM Terminals expands Pipavav Port
APM Terminals Pipavav (Gujarat Pipavav Port) has inked a deal with the Gujarat Maritime Board for the proposed expansion of Pipavav Port.
The agreement, worth around US$2 billion, forms part of A.P. Moller-Maersk’s wider commitment, announced in February 2025, to invest over US$5 billion in India’s ports and maritime infrastructure.
Planned developments include new container and liquid cargo handling facilities, expanded storage and rail infrastructure and improved multimodal connectivity with the dedicated freight corridor and interior regions.
“This investment plan is not just about expanding Pipavav Port, it’s about unlocking new opportunities for Gujarat, for India and for global trade,” said Jon Goldner, chief executive of APM Terminals Asia & Middle East.
“We are building the capacity, resilience and sustainability needed to serve India’s economy for decades to come.”
Expected to generate around 25,000 direct and indirect jobs, the project will support industrial growth across Saurashtra and beyond.
“Over the past 30 years, Pipavav Port has been a model of public–private partnership,” said Gujarat chief minister Shri Bhupendra Patel.
“This expansion reflects strong confidence in Gujarat’s infrastructure, policy framework and governance, and will strengthen our position as India’s maritime gateway.”
The project aligns with India’s Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047 and Viksit Gujarat@2047 roadmap, and will solidify Pipavav’s position as a strategic trade hub and benchmark for sustainable port development.
