The project was announced at the end of Q4 2025 and work has commenced with a two-year timescale envisaged, according to Fernando Fauche, CCO, APM Terminals Peru.

Fauche notes that the project will enhance throughput and efficiency and support the launch of direct liner services from China and South Korea to Callao, which cut transit times to around 23 days. Fauche added that these services are already seeing good demand from shippers, especially Chinese e-commerce platforms, such as Temu.

“Shipments are fully booked for the next six weeks. There’s demand,” he underlined, when announcing the project.
