Da Nang Port project moves forward

The project represents an investment of more than US$1.7 billion and is expected to deliver a terminal capable of handling over 5.7 million teu annually. Development will begin with Berths 1 and 2, with further expansion planned up to eight berths. The terminal is scheduled to begin operations in early 2029.

“This project will support the development of Da Nang as a high-performing gateway for central Vietnam’s growing trade flows, underpinned by targeted investment in modern port infrastructure and capabilities that enable long-term economic growth,” said Keith Svendsen, chief executive of APM Terminals

“By combining APM Terminals’ operating discipline with Hateco’s local expertise, we are establishing a platform that improves the efficiency and reliability of trade, strengthening connectivity across Vietnam and into neighbouring markets, including Laos, Cambodia, eastern Thailand and Myanmar.”

The port is a key component of Vietnam’s National Strategy for Logistics Development, positioning Da Nang as one of the country’s four priority logistics hubs. Once complete, Lien Chieu will be central Vietnam’s only deep-sea terminal, capable of handling vessels of up to 18,000 teu.

The development is expected to enhance integration between sea and land logistics, linking the port to rail, warehouses, industrial zones and the Da Nang Free Trade Zone, ultimately reducing congestion and lowering logistics costs across the region.
