JAXPORT expands automotive capacity

The Port of Jacksonville (JAXPORT) has further strengthened its position as one of the United States’ leading vehicle-handling ports with the completion of a major new vehicle processing centre for Southeast Toyota Distributors at Blount Island.

The US$145 million facility replaces Southeast Toyota’s former processing operation at JAXPORT’s Talleyrand terminal, delivering a modernised, higher-capacity operation designed to support growing automotive volumes moving through the port.

Built by construction company, JE Dunn, when fully operational, the centre will be capable of processing nearly 4,000 vehicles per week, representing a 6% increase on the previous facility.

“Southeast Toyota Distributors is one of JAXPORT’s longest-standing tenants and a key part of our success as one of the nation’s leading vehicle-handling ports,” said JAXPORT chief executive, Eric Green.

“With Florida and the broader southeast US continuing to add residents and visitors, their expanded capabilities allow us to efficiently serve rising demand for autos across our region and state while supporting hundreds of quality local jobs.”

Spanning more than 380,000 square feet (35,303 sqm) across seven buildings on 88 acres (36 ha), the site significantly expands JAXPORT’s automotive infrastructure. The largest structure, the Accessory Installation Building, covers 272,000 square feet (25,270 sqm) and integrates office space with amenities for workers.

The development also enhances operational efficiency at the port through new on-site infrastructure, including a fuel island, a three-lane car wash, rail connectivity and electric vehicle charging stations.

Southeast Toyota Distributors said the new facility marks a significant milestone. “The completion of this project is the culmination of the largest investment in our history,” said Eric Carter, group vice president of Operations.

“Now that construction is completed, we look forward to serving our dealer network even faster and better than before while continuing our long-term commitment to growth in Jacksonville.”
