Port construction powers Johor growth

Johor Port Berhad, a member of MMC Corp, said its newly expanded liquid jetty facilities mark a significant milestone in its ongoing infrastructure development.

“This enhancement not only enables us to cater to the increasing demand for larger liquid bulk carriers but also solidifies our position as a resilient and forward-looking maritime gateway, crucial for supporting the economic vitality of Johor and the broader Southeast Asian region,” said Md Derick Basir, chief executive officer of Johor Port Berhad.

Purpose-built

The marine construction project involved the addition of two purpose-built jetties designed to accommodate vessels of up to 120,000 DWT.

They will significantly increasing handling capacity for edible oils and other liquid bulk cargo.

In fact, in total, the new jetties are expected to boost the port’s liquid cargo throughput by 5.0 million tonnes annually. 

Strategically positioned at the eastern end of the existing BT6 and BT8 jetties, the new facilities were developed with a firm emphasis on safety, environmental responsibility and engineering excellence, courtesy of Jabatan Laut Malaysia.

The new jetties are equipped with an array of advanced features including a dedicated operations room and integrated CCTV surveillance; robust fire-fighting systems and foundational infrastructure to support Class 3 cargo with adaptability for future Class 1 requirements.

Further amenities include comprehensive Wi-Fi connectivity; a dedicated oil boom deployment area; optimised night operation lighting; a pipe rack accommodating 25 pipelines; and a modern loading platform complete with oil sumps, emergency showers and a marine crane.
