Tilbury3 expansion plans revealed
Forth Ports, owners of the Port of Tilbury in the UK, have submitted an outline planning application to redevelop a 100-acre brownfield site next to Tilbury2, paving the way for a significant expansion of the Thames-based port.
The proposed Tilbury3 (T3) development, equivalent in size to 70 football pitches, will form part of the Thames Freeport and benefit from tax site incentives. T3 will accommodate a wide range of industrial and logistical uses, including warehousing, construction materials handling, container and vehicle storage.
“This is an exciting time for the Port of Tilbury as we submit our plans for Tilbury3,” said Stuart Wallace, chief executive of Forth Ports Group.
“T3 will sustain existing roles and create many new jobs, contribute to the local economy and future-proof the Port of Tilbury in supporting the economies of Greater London and the South East.”
T3 is strategically positioned on part of the old Tilbury Power Station site and will share infrastructure with Tilbury2, including road, rail and river access.
Environmental considerations are also a priority, with plans to implement habitat creation strategies similar to those successfully used in previous developments.
“The Port of Tilbury is a central economic site in the Thames Freeport,” said Martin Whiteley, chief executive of Thames Freeport.
“This new development will boost growth and create good value jobs for local people, while supporting regeneration efforts.”
If approved, construction would begin in 2026 with the site fully operational by 2030.
