WATCH: Pilbara Ports awards Dampier contract

The stage two contract has been awarded to NRW Pty and Brady Marine and Civil Pty, operating as the NRW Brady Joint Venture (NBJV). Under the agreement, NBJV will design and build a new 57-metre-long link bridge connecting the existing Dampier Cargo Wharf to the Dampier Bulk Handling Facility.

The Australian Government has committed AUS$565 million towards common user port infrastructure upgrades in the Pilbara, including AUS$115 million for the Port of Dampier.

“The Cook Government understands the economic importance of our port infrastructure, especially in the Pilbara,” said WA Ports and Regional Development Minister Stephen Dawson.

“These works will provide critical advancement in enhancing the region’s direct shipping capabilities.

“Our dedication to infrastructure expansion will foster economic growth, provide support for regional communities and bolster emerging industries in the Pilbara for years to come.”

The scope of works includes the demolition and removal of the existing Southern Mooring Dolphin, piling works and construction of a reinforced concrete deck. Once complete, the link bridge will provide connect the new bulk handling facility with the existing wharf, strengthening marine infrastructure and supporting improved shipping services at the Port of Dampier.

Construction of the Dampier Bulk Handling Facility is well advanced, with demolition works, dredging, drilling and blasting now complete and wharf construction progressing. The facility is on track for completion in the first half of this year, while the link bridge is scheduled to be fully operational by late 2026.

In June last year a consortium inked a new deal to bring large-scale ammonia bunkering to the Port of Dampier.
