Buss terminal to support wind power industry

The operator of the new multi-purpose terminal is Orange Blue Terminals B.V., where the Buss Group has a majority holding.

The freight involved more than 160 trucks and heavy-duty vehicles and 24 containers with a total weight of approx. 1,000 tonnes bound for Chile.

“We are completely satisfied with this start. We are delighted to be able to launch handling operations so soon after the terminal areas have been handed over”, says Marc-Oliver Hauswald, Managing Director of Orange Blue Terminals B.V. “Our terminal will start operating with full force in September 2011 when the first heavy-duty crane with a payload capacity of more than 200 tonnes will be put into operation,” Hauswald continued.

The Orange Blue Terminal in Eemshaven will initially operate a 260 metre long quay which is due to be extended to a total of 630 metres in 2012. The terminal equipment, the geographical location and a draught of up to 14 metres enable the new terminal to handle all kinds of goods. But the new location has another major benefit: it is very close to many local companies operating in the energy sector.

Buss is investing more than EUR 10 million to expand the facilities, pave the terminal area and erect the necessary superstructure. As a result, the group will create approx. 100 new jobs there in the medium term.

Buss Group Managing Director Heinrich Ahlers underlines the following: “This new terminal enables us to take a significant step towards the future. The major focuses of our work in Eemshaven will be the offshore wind energy sector and multi-purpose operations. Now that Germany has decided to abandon nuclear power, all the political parties are placing their hopes on renewable energy sources and particularly on wind power. Our new business centre provides ideal conditions for the offshore industry in the North Sea – and the Buss Group can and will play its part in this reorientation of energy policy.”
