ClassNK releases EGC systems guidelines
ClassNK has released ‘Guidelines for Exhaust Gas Cleaning Systems’ that cover class safety requirements as well as safety requirements set out in the IMO guidelines.
These guidelines comes as the MARPOL Convention Annex VI has placed phased limits on the maximum allowable amount of sulphur in fuel oils used by vessels globally, as well as stricter requirements in geographically defined emissions control areas.
ClassNK joined forces with Japan’s National Maritime Research Institute (NMRI) to develop the new Guidelines, which offers explanations of the contents of the IMO guidelines. They also compile the relevant safety requirements and other essential information related to the installation and operation of such systems.
The Guidelines are available free of charge online.
