Cloud-based emissions monitoring

OstiaEdge can now monitor WR Systems’ Emsys emissions monitoring system. ESRG says this will allow it to offer operators, managers and owners greater insight into how their engines and generators are performing from both fuel efficiency and environmental compliance perspectives.

Rob Bradenham, general manager, ESRG, told GreenPort: “Increasing emissions regulations and enforcement, as well as a drive to increase sustainability and the ability to communicate these efforts to the market, are driving more and more owners, managers and operators to look at emissions monitoring equipment instead of just calculating emissions based on fuel consumption.”

“We see the Emsys system as a natural fit with the OstiaEdge total vessel monitoring and analytics platform,” he added.

The software collects, validates and analyses data onboard the vessel and sends the results to cloud-based remote data centres. A GPS interface allows a vessels’ geographical position to be recorded to demonstrate compliance within ECA zones.

By combining emissions data and engine performance analytics, it can also be used to tune engines and generators for the optimum balance between emissions compliance and fuel efficiency.

WR Systems’ Emsys equipment is also able to monitor gases such as CO and CH4.

Included in the collection of shipboard equipment and systems that are monitored by OstiaEdge are engines, generators, fuel metres, torque metres, ballast systems and navigation systems.
