CMA CGM adopts ‘cold ironing’
CMA CGM has adopted a “mobile solution container” in a bid to comply with new Californian rules calling for ‘cold ironing’ or alternative maritime power (AMP).
Six CMA CGM vessels deployed on the transpacific services will be equipped with the solutions, which can be moved from one vessel to another. The company says this makes cold ironing flexible and easy to implement.
The first vessel to be fitted with the container is the 11.400 teu CMA CGM Libra, which is operates on the Pearl River service.
The vessel successfully connected to shore power at the Port of Long Beach Pier J in January – the vessel’s first stop of the year.
