Efficiency in Gdansk

Both machines installed at the Port of Gdansk are equipped with electric drives and the unique Pactronic hybrid power boosters, which allows for efficient and eco-friendly operation.

Hans-Jörg Schwärzler, marketing maritime cranes, Liebherr, said to Greenport that installing electric drives and doing away with diesel consumption is common when installing the LPS 600 because its travelling route is predefined and limited to rail infrastructure.

“Additionally, if the electric (or diesel) engine is combined with the Pactronic hybrid drive, the efficiency of the crane is even increased since hoisting power is doubled. This results in an improved hoisting and lowering with up to 100% higher speeds”, he said.

In terms of turnover capacity this means a plus of 30% without any additional energy or fuel consumption, significantly improving the green footprint.

The LPS 600 was awarded with the IBJ Crane of the Year Award in 2011. Pactronic was introduced in 2010. Liebherr says that the hybrid drive system is virtually maintenance. Other environmental credentials of the system include less noise exposure and the fact that it is 100% recyclable .
