Emissions innovation boost for UK marine sector
Businesses developing innovative solutions to reduce emissions in naval, leisure and merchant marine vessels and improve their overall efficiency are to get a £3m boost from the UKs innovation agency – the Technology Strategy Board.
Business and Energy Minister Michael Fallon announced the opening of a new collaborative R&D competition during the London Boat Show.
The ‘Vessel Efficiency II: better systems at sea’ competition aims to build collaboration across the maritime sector, strengthen supply chains and create opportunities for smaller businesses.
Last year’s competition attracted total funding requests in excess of three times the available £7m budget. Successful projects included pioneering propulsion technology, emissions reduction systems and innovative vessel routing systems.
