GREEN EFFORTS workshop on Greener Ports

The organisers of the workshop have as main objective to exchange ideas, present and discuss project outcomes with port authorities, harbour masters, port and terminal operators and other interested parties in order achieve applicable results.

The GREEN EFFORTS workshop, which is entitled “Greener Port – What to expect from technologies” will give attendees the opportunity to discuss topics including “carbon footprint calculation”, “energy management and potential of renewable energy”, “LNG as potential source of cleaner energy” and “Onshore-based power supply to berthed ships”. These topics will be presented in three focussed sessions, namely Greener Ports, Greener Terminals and LNG and Onshore-based power supply.

GREEN EFFORTS aims at reducing emissions by decreasing energy consumption and increasing the usage of regenerative and low emission energies at terminals and in ports. The research focuses on developing an applicable method to assess the carbon footprint of terminals (container, RoRo and inland waterway), providing a solid catalogue of opportunities and technical/operational possibilities to reduce the carbon footprint, and an energy saving plan applicable to the terminals. Solutions must allow to be controlled in a standardised transparent and easy-to-follow way, also considering the role that a port authority may play to achieve these goals.
