Kalmar secures double green equipment order
Kalmar has secured two new major deals for green electric equipment in Germany and Poland offering operators increased reliability and productivity.
The first order, is for Hamburger Hafen und Logistik AG (HHLA) and will equip the HHLA Container Terminal Burchardkai (CTB) with ten new next-generation electric and hybrid straddle carriers.
“Our partnership with Kalmar goes from strength to strength and these new machines will be vital in terms of helping us to continue to reduce operating costs and cut noise and emissions,” said Jens Hansen, Executive Board of HHLA.
Regenerative energy
The new order from HHLA comprises nine Kalmar straddle carriers with diesel-electric powertrains and one Kalmar hybrid straddle carrier, featuring a maintenance-free regenerative energy system.
All machines will feature new robust mobile drives, a completely redesigned electrical system for the upper frame and spreader, a more spacious electric cabinet layout and LED working lights as standard.
This latest order brings the total number of Kalmar straddle carriers ordered by HHLA in the last two years to 30, with delivery scheduled to take place in the first quarter of 2019.
Meanwhile, Kalmar continues to boost expansion at DCT Gdansk with the supply of three new electrically customised RMGs in the second half of 2019.
The three Kalmar RMGs, each with a lifting capacity of 41 tonnes and railspan of 32 metres, will be used to service trains in the new rail section of the container terminal.
They will be fitted with Kalmar’s SmartFleet process automation solution as well as Kalmar SmartWeight for certified container weighing that will be integrated in the Navis N4 Terminal Operating System (TOS) implemented in the terminal in 2011.
