NACCO environmental award

The plant in Nijmegen, where Hyster Big Trucks are manufactured, beat off 25 other companies to win the third Environmental Award West Weurt.

NACCO won the award because of its approach to making environmental improvements – it has put in place sigtnificant improved environmental processes along with reduced energy use.

Its also reduced necessity to repaint vehicles and consequently reduced its emissions of Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) down by 93%.

The consumption of gas and electricity per tonne of product has also been drastically decreased at the plant. Having built a connection between the Nijmegen plant and the Nijmegen Waal river port, in 2007 NACCO created a permanent dock for a barge, which enables finished Hyster Big Trucks to be shipped by water, rather than by road, saving on emissions and costs.

NACCO produces products with low fuel consumption. For example, Hyster ReachStackers and Container Handlers used in ports, which are manufactured at the Nijmegen plant, are reported to deliver significantly reduced fuel emissions, as well as significant savings in fuel costs thanks, partly, to Tier 4i/Stage IIIB compliant engines.

The award comes with a prize of €10,000 which will be spent on further enhancing the plant’s sustainability and the development of solar energy systems.
