Palfinger gets greener
Palfinger Marine has achieved ISO 14001 certification – a sure sign that the company is working towards a comprehensive management system with safety and the environment at the forefront of operations.
ISO 14001 analyses important requirements for identifying and managing environmental aspects, provides process descriptions and shows the company how it can achieve ambitious environmental targets supported by annual internal and external audits.
The company is expecting specific competitive advantages from the certification. It says that customers and other stakeholders can anticipate cost savings from more efficient energy handling and use of raw materials by the company.
Palfinger says it is pursuing a bold plan. In addition to ISO 14001, the company is expecting to attain three additional certifications by the end of 2013. Firstly, ISO 9001:2008 which is a quality management system certification for the sale of marine, offshore and wind cranes.
Palfinger also aims to prove its efficient use of energy by obtaining the ISO 50001 certification and to implement a management system for occupational health and safety in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series (OHSAS), closely based on the ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.
Suppliers who provide welded components for Palfinger cranes already meet the complete quality requirements for welding work and have EN 3834-2 certification in addition to being ISO 9001-certified.
Palfinger Marine currently consists of five divisions: marine cranes by Palfinger Marine, offshore cranes by Palfinger Dreggen; launch and recovery systems by Palfinger Ned-Deck, wind cranes by Palfinger Wind and after sales and service by Palfinger Marine Services.
